Media coverage of Ivan Jonák

This thesis focuses on the representation of Ivan Jonák in the discourse of selected Czech media and points to the phenomenon of celebritization of criminals, which is becoming more and more frequent in the media environment. The theoretical part of the paper briefly deals with the basic understanding of the phenomenon of celebritization and follows the description of Jonák's life with a rich criminal past and the main case connected with his name - the murder of his wife Ludvika. At the same time, it attempts to approach the cult of personality he built, which, in the author's words, the media helped to build, and the ways in which it embedded him in the discourse of the Czech media built one of the first criminal celebrities. In the analytical part, according to the established methodology of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) by Norman Fairclough, the author is devoted to uncovering the main discursive frames in which the topic was presented in our media environment and in which context Jonák appears most often in the selected media. Celebritization of athletes in media by the example of cross-country skier Kateřina Neumannová

The bachelor thesis "Celebritization of athletes in the media by the example of cross-country skier Kateřina Neumannová" focuses on the phenomenon of celebrities, especially sports celebrities and fallen sport heroes. It summarizes theoretical knowledge about celebritization, news myths, framing, and sports journalism as an important tool for the construction of sports stars. It looks for differences between important periods in Kateřina Neumannová's life, examining the 1998 Nagano Olympics, the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, after which she announced a maternity break, the 2006 Turin Olympics, where she won her only Olympic gold medal, and the 2009 Nordic Ski Championships in Liberec. The research, which was conducted through quantitative content analysis and in-depth semi-structured interview with Kateřina Neumannová, explores how the celebrity status of the female athlete has changed over time, what topics she has been associated with and what celebritization elements can be found in the texts under study. The research sample includes 862 articles.
The role of social media in communication of political leaders

It is a well-known that the role of social media in contemporary political communication is increasing. A great deal is being written and said about the online campaign of Barack Obama in 2008. In our environment, dispel any doubt in this regard, the presidential elections in January 2013. However, the attention of scientists is primarily focused on the analysis of online communication during the election campaign. Against this background, the bachelor thesis aims to analyze communication in a period when no election campaign is taking place. Our purpose is not to focus on the political parties, as it is usual in the Czech political environment, but we try to apply the concept of personalization on the communication of political leaders. Through the analysis of data collected from facebook's profiles of six leaders, we are trying to capture the character and basic trends of political communication on social network sites.
Media image of David Černý and his work in the zech press

This bachelor thesis "The medial image of David Černý and his work in the czech press" is trying to present the medial image of contemporary czech controversial artist in selected periodicals, formed both by the media and his personality. For specific documentation of the image, its changes and development while outlining development of periodicals themselves were selected two seasons; five-year period before the turn of the millennium (1996-2000) and equally long period after the turn of the millennium (2006-2010), the periodicals were chosen from among the most read newspapers (MF DNES, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny and Blesk) and weeklies (Reflex, Respekt a Týden). In the first part is presented the biography of David Černý and his work, as well as some of the press trends since 1989. The second part of the work is focused on a specific period and personality in the monitored titles, the aim is to describe from selected articles the medial image of David Černý and describe, how it has been transformed, how has changed expression of the artist and which changes have occured in press. The diploma thesis Sport news in the Czech print media agenda: changes in coverage and presentation of sports and the influence on a public agenda in 1993 - 2007 analyses sport news of the chosen print media and its changes in a long- time period. This thesis finds out whether and to what extent the sport news pages extend, which sports and in what way are presented, and whether changes of the coverage occur. Next question is, whether the long-term coverage of certain sports can influence public opinion on which sports to consider as important and favorite. In addition to that, this thesis is concerned with the occurrences of personalization and celebritization trends in the Czech print media sport news.
Specifies of the process of creation media celebrity in tabloid media

This thesis deals with process of creating an artificial celebrity in Czech media context. It demonstrates that it is possible to make an unknown person famous and to become a celebrity who attracts media attention. First two chapters define a celebrity as an institution, its primary social functions and also its origin and creation. Third chapter describes Czech tabloid media market and its changes in last few years. Furthermore, it explains reasons why there is need for new celebrities. Forth chapter analyses in detail conditions that lead to creation of new artificial celebrity. Moreover, it defines a process of such creation and routines used by Czech media to cover celebrities. Last chapter shows a case of Ornella Štiková who was not even publicly known before she became a celebrity. After becoming celebrity, she attracted attention of all main Czech tabloid media. This media interest lasted (including short falls) almost for two years. Such a period is longer than average. As a part of this thesis, the author made a series of interviews with media experts, significant tabloid media professionals and insiders of Czech showbyznys. Trends in Czech TV Travel Series Between the Years 2010 - 2020

The Trends in Czech TV Travel Series Between the Years 2010-2020 diploma thesis outlines the typology and main trends in travel series that premiered on Czech public broadcast television channels between 2010 and 2020. The aim of this thesis is to introduce categories of Czech TV travel series and describe how the viewer is addressed. In the theoretical section, the terms such as TV travel journalism and the issue of celebritization and celebrification are defined. By introducing the concept of the Tourist Gaze, the problematic aspects of TV travel series are defined, be it the stereotypization of a displayed environment or the commercialization of its content. Following the methodology section, the thematical classification of Czech TV travel series is presented. In turn, the main part of the thesis focuses on establishing five typological categories of the travel series. After analysing several randomly selected episodes of the programmes, the thesis then sums up the most important peculiarities of Czech public broadcast production of travel series between the years 2010-2020 and identifies the most crucial development trends within the genre.
Tomáš Řepka in the media from his football career to his conviction

Bachelor thesis "Tomáš Řepka in the media from his football career to his conviction"analyses the media image of a former football player Tomáš Řepka. Qualitative analysis was used to research in two online media, tabloid Super.cz and iDnes.cz. The research sample is defined by periods when the personality of Tomáš Řepka was covered by the media. At first, there are periods in his sports career, and then the thesis is focusing on activities in his personal life. Periods were selected freely - they were either reflecting changes in the football life or there were published new actualities, which were related to one of his affairs. The thesis uses concrete examples to show changes in reporting about person Tomáš Řepka. By argumentation and citations from published articles disproves or confirms set media image. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with news values, agenda-setting, or celebritization, which is a concept that is linked to the researched individual. The results of the analysis show how the media image of Tomáš Řepka has changed since his football career to his conviction.
